2011 – Remnants of Earth, Capotavola, Marsaskala, Malta

This intimate collection, remnants of the previous exhibition, explores the poetics of a surreal landscape. Each tableau is an assemblage of clay slabs that lie next to each other creating a tantalisingly familiar landscape but without any direct contextual reference to the real world. The compositions are characterised by fluid lines, texture and vibrant colours that describe imagined, deserted places. Cassar’s “earth” is sometimes desolate and arid, sometimes lush and alluring but always hauntingly beautiful.
